TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Saudi Arabia has reopened its borders for expatriates from 20 countries, including Indonesia. The kingdom had imposed an entry ban on expatriates from the 20 nations since February to prevent Covid-19 spread.

The Foreign Affairs' Ministry consular affairs agency said the policy only applies to expats who were fully vaccinated in Saudi Arabia before departing from their home country. The ban exempted Saudi citizens, foreign diplomats, health practitioners, and their families.

Expats wanting to return to the Kingdom must also ensure they were free from the virus.

In addition to Indonesia, other foreign nationals allowed to enter Arab Saudi are those from It covered the UAE, Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, the US, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, India, Pakistan and Japan.

The policy also applies to travelers who had transited through any of the 20 countries in the 14 days before a planned visit to Saudi Arabia.

However, the Kingdom is currently dealing with a surge in cases. Authorities reported 353 new cases in the last 24 hours, bringing its caseload up to 542,707 people with 4,377 active cases of which 1,108 are in critical condition.
