TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government has raised the Covid-19 vaccination target to 11 million people from the previous 8.8 million. “We are raising the target to ensure that all residents in Jakarta get the vaccine,” said Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria in Jakarta, Tuesday, August 19.

The new target, said Riza, was in line with the ability of the city government in administering vaccines to the people. At present, the city could provide vaccines to 100,000 people per day on average. The target was estimated to be achieved in one month.

“It can be achieved in September or October at the latest,” Riza added. However, he argued that it also depended on the availability and distribution of the vaccines received by the capital. “Hopefully the vaccines are ready.”

The city’s Health Agency stated that 8,507,635 people have received the first dose, and 3,532,646 have got the second dose or have been fully vaccinated.

The Jakarta administration was previously instructed by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to administer vaccines to 7.5 million people by the end of August 2021. In July, Governor Anies Baswedan announced that the target had been passed. “Alhamdulillah (Praise to God), we are one month ahead of the set target,” he said via a video broadcasted by the city administration.
