TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Health Ministry stated the incident of an individual injected with an empty Covid-19 vaccine syringe in Pluit, North Jakarta, was pure negligence.
A spokesperson for the ministry’s vaccination program, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said the vaccinator took the wrong syringe.
“This is because [the vaccinator] took a syringe that has not been filled with the vaccine,” said Nadia on Monday, August 10. She explained the vaccinator is a nurse at a hospital in North Jakarta.
The Health Ministry and the Jakarta Health Agency, Nadia added, had cut off the cooperation with the vaccinator.
“The person is now no longer allowed to be a vaccinator, and we have also asked the person in charge to conduct closer monitoring,” she said.
Previously, a 15-second video showing a man receiving the Covid-19 vaccine from an empty syringe went viral on social media. The incident was suspected to occur in a vaccination center in Pluit, North Jakarta, on August 6.
