TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), through its General Bureau, reported Greenpeace Indonesia to the South Jakarta Police today, July 19, over the laser shooting at the KPK’s Red and White Building.

The theatrical action carried out by the environmental group activists took place on June 28, 2021 at around 19:05 Western Indonesian Time (WIB). They fired laser beams that formed various writings, such as "Berani Jujur Pecat" or "Dare to Be Honest, Fired" and "Save KPK", as a form of criticism against the weakening of the KPK.

Acting KPK spokesperson Ali Fikri said the anti-graft body considered that there was a potential for intentional disruptions of order and convenience of the KPK’s operation as the national vital object carried out by external parties.

“KPK security officers and the South Jakarta Police’s vital object units who stood guard at the time had prohibited and warned the external parties,” said Ali in a written statement on Monday, July 19.

Ali went on to say that the action was even carried out outside the specified time and without permission from the authority.

“But those parties continued to do so while relocating,” Ali said, adding that the KPK had handed over the case to the police.
