TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police are using the criminal justice system in the case of drug hoarding in Kalideres, West Jakarta. The hoarded medicines are needed to treat Covid-19 patients.

The police will coordinate the case with the prosecutor's office, the court, and the Covid-19 Task Force.

West Jakarta Police Chief Commissioner Ady Wibowo said the coordination with other law enforcers was aimed at uncovering the material truth of criminal cases. Another purpose is that the hoarded drugs can be immediately distributed to the public.

"Knowing that the Covid-19 drugs are very much needed by the people," Ady said in a written statement, Tuesday, July 13.

The police found hundreds of boxes of 500mg Azithromycin needed by Covid-19 patients when they raided PT ASA in Kalideres, West Jakarta on Monday, July 12. The drug was allegedly hoarded so they can resell them in higher prices.

The authorities have questioned several witnesses from PT ASA, including the director, a pharmacist, and the warehouse head. But no one has been named a suspect in the Covid-19 drug hoarding case.
