TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Health Ministry in a statement on Wednesday announced that Indonesia will receive 50 million doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines from a partnership of the ministry, Pfizer Indonesia, and BioNTech SE.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin showed his appreciation towards the vaccine-maker as it would help Indonesia to speed-up its mass-vaccination program.

“I convey my gratitude towards the partnership that helped supply Indonesia’s need for Covid-19 vaccines. The additional 50 million doses of Pfizer vaccines is hoped to fast-track the national [inoculation] program,” Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin wrote on July 14.

Pfizer Indonesia and BioNTech SE will provide the vaccine doses after the Indonesian Food and Drugs Monitoring Agency (BPOM) granted the emergency use authorization.

At a global scale, Pfizer and BioNTech are eyeing to produce up to 3 billion vaccine doses by the end of 2021.

Pfizer Indonesia country manager Stephen Leung also voiced his appreciation for the partnership. He said that this is a crucial step in providing Covid-19 vaccines to protect the health of Indonesians, recover the economy, and accelerate the return of normal life for Indonesian people.
