TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Parks and City Forest Department is providing free coffins for residents who died due to Covid-19. The department's Central Jakarta chief, Mila Ananda, said the coffins are stored at the Petamburan Cemetery.

The coffins are free of charges, unless the families want special types of coffins.

"It is the duty of the Parks Service to prepare the coffins, and then deliver them to the designated cemeteries. [The coffins] are stored at the Petamburan Cemetery that serves as a storage warehouse," Mila said in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Mila said that the free coffins for Covid-19 bodies have been available since the pandemic broke out in Indonesia in March 2020.

The distribution of free coffins from the Jakarta Provincial Government is carried out through health facilities, such as hospitals, health centers, to 42 sub-districts throughout the capital.

The City Parks and Forests Department is also providing vehicles to transport bodies of people who died from Covid, which can be ordered via hotline numbers: 021-548-4544; 021-548-0137; 0815-8483-0285; 0895-4330-0400-0; 0857-1442-8739.
