TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the city administration did not rule out the possibility of expanding the road closure in the capital city. According to him, the policy is aimed at curbing the Covid-19 spread which is currently increasing drastically.

“Perhaps, we will expand it to more areas in Jakarta,” said Riza at City Hall on Tuesday night, June 22.

He added that mayors have selected a number of city roads that are potential to get crowded with people and will consider the closure later.

However, Riza stopped short of detailing which roads. “Those roads that are potential to get crowded can be immediately closed,” he said.

As previously reported, Jakarta Metro Police limited public activities on several roads across the capital. Traffic Director Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo announced ten roads were closed starting Monday night, June 21, due to rampant violations of health protocols in the area.

According to Sambodo, the road closures would take effect from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m. However, he said the Jakarta Police had not yet decided as to when the closures would last.
