TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Conducting an air travel today will certainly be a different experience compared to the times prior to the pandemic as the passengers must go through stricter screening and health checks.

The Indonesian government has constantly updated its safe air travel protocols in a balanced attempt to suppres the spread of the virus while continue to let the economy run.

Transportation Ministry (Kemenhub) has issued circular No.26/2021 on commercial flights, that has been implemented since April 1, which is as follows:

1. Passengers are required to wear face masks, maintain safe physical distance, avoid crowds, and wash hands with soap or hand sanitizers.

2. Having conversations with fellow passengers is banned during a flight. The same goes with taking phone calls.

3. No food and beverages are permitted during a flight under 2-hours of travel time with the exception of people that are required to consume medicines for health reasons.

4. Passengers on flights destined for Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport must be free of coronavirus which can be proven by bringing a covid-19 permit pass (PCR or rapid antigen) with a negative result two days prior to departure. While those using GeNose pass can be taken one day prior to departure.

5. The requirements do not apply for the passengers in flights connecting the outermost regions and passengers aged 5 and below.

6. Filling out the Indonesian e-HAC or electronic health access card, which is required before boarding any commercial flights that are available by downloading the e-HAC app for Android and Apple phones or simply accessing website.

7. Passengers with negative result of PCR, rapid antigen, or GeNose tests but still show symptoms of Covid-19 will not be allowed to board their flight and must undergo a diagnostic test and go through self isolation during the test.

8. Airfare refunds can be filed according to the existing Law.
