TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-Owned Banks Association (Himbara) Chairman Sunarso confirmed that the four state-owned banks, namely BRI, BNI, BTN and Bank Mandiri, decided to cancel the plan to charge transaction fees at Link ATMs. “The four of us agree that we will not charge the fee,” said Sunarso in a work meeting with the Commission VI of the House of Representative (DPR) on Monday, June 14.

Sunarso, who is also the President Director of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), made the statement in response to the question voiced by PDIP politician Mufti Anam.

Sunarso explained that all banks charge fees for off-us transactions or transactions carried out at any other ATM. However, only Himbara’s Link ATMs have not charged fees since they were introduced.

Over time, he went on, Himbara wanted to educate customers to switch to mobile banking and planned to charge fees for balance checks and cash withdrawals at Link ATMs. The polemic raging after the announcement, Sunarso argued, was then more exciting than the small benefits. “So the four of us decided to not charge the fee,” he confirmed.

Previously, Himbara announced the imposition of fees for balance checks and cash withdrawals at the Link ATMs channels. To check balance and withdraw cash, customers must pay a fee of Rp2,500 and Rp5,000, respectively. As for transfer to other banks, the fee remains at Rp4,000.
