TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police asserted they were committed to blocking road access to avert the Eid homecoming exodus or mudik in line with the government’s ban on mudik from May 6 until May 17, 2021. The traffic checkpoints will even run 24 hours a day.

“It runs for 24 hours a day,” said National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Rusdi Hartono in a virtual press conference, Monday, May 10, 2021.

He said officers in the field must comply with this policy so policemen found neglecting their duties would be considered as disciplinary violations.

“The internal affairs security will surely take action against members who are not disciplined in carrying out their duties,” said Rusdi.

The traffic checkpoints to prevent people from travelling to their hometowns for Eid al-Fitr by the National Police are held under the 2021 Ketupat Operation and have been running for four days.

The National Police Traffic Corps Head, Insp. Gen. Istiono, said the police had asked around 70,000 vehicles to turn around as they attempted to go for Eid holidays or mudik during the first three days after the policy was effective. The figure was obtained from the monitoring at 381 checkpoints spread from Sumatra to Bali. “In general, everything runs smoothly,” said Istiono.
