TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spokesperson of the directorate general of immigration Arya Pradhana Anggakara confirmed the content of a viral video showing visitors from China arriving at Soekarno-Hatta Airport from a chartered plane on May 4, 2021.

This video that was spread on social media platforms stirred controversy as the foreigners' arrival was amidst the government's attempt to restrict the arrivals of foreign nationals, initially meant to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus strain found in a number of countries.

"That is confirmed on May 4, Tuesday at 2:55 PM Western Indonesia Time there were 85 Chinese nationals and three Indonesians arriving at Soekarno-Hatta Airport's Terminal 3 by a China Southern Airlines chartered flight from Shenzhen," Arya confirmed on Thursday, May 6, 2021.

He insisted that the Indonesian immigration has obtained documents belonging to the foreigners and assures that the 85 Chinese nationals had undergone proper health examinations. Arya also said that they have proper visas and other immigration documents.

However, the intention of their visit to Indonesia remains unknown as the government is firmly restricting the arrival of foreign nationals to prevent a further spread of the new Covid-19 strain.
