TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The latest air carrier trying its luck in the aviation industry is Indonesian carrier Super Air Jet, which was established in March this year. It’s president director, Ari Azhari, said this fresh private carrier was entirely funded and owned by locals.

“This air carrier is a new private air carrier in the daily scheduled passenger transportation services where its ownership and capital equity come from locals,” he wrote in a statement on Monday, May 3.

The carrier, bearing the callsign IU from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and SJV from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), is currently preparing to conduct its inaugural flight departure soon.

Azhari said the carrier was established based on the optimism that Indonesia’s domestic flight market was still openly available with strong demands for this category, especially the rapid demands from millennials.

He said the company focused on offering a low-cost concept for point-to-point flights domestically. He also signalled that Super Air Jet would likely expand to international flights. The carrier will operate the latest Airbus 320-200 with 180 economy class seats.
