TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Papua Regional Police have mapped six armed criminal groups (KKB) that actively carried out security disturbances in the mountainous region of Papua. The groups were detected in Puncak, Intan Jaya, and Nduga Regency, said the Regional Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri.

“They are actually a large group, but there are only six active groups so far. They carry out activities in the Ilaga and Beoga areas of Puncak Regency, Sugapa Regency, Intan Jaya Regency, and Nduga area,” said Fakhiri in Timika, Sunday, May 2, 2021.

The rebel group leaders have long been noted in the Police Wanted List or DPOs, including Lekagak Telenggen, Murib Military, Sabinus Waker, Egianus Kogoya, and others.

Fakhiri added that the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the police joint personnel would do their utmost to arrest the KKB leaders who have been the main actors behind a series of acts of violence in the country’s easternmost province.

“The police are trying the best to catch them alive so that their network can be exposed. But if they resist, we will paralyze them. We are still working on that,” he added.

Thus, the Papua Regional Police together with the regional military continued to mobilize all elements of society and the regional government so that they would not be afraid and immediately separate themselves from the KKB, which has now been labeled as a terrorist group.
