Jakarta Sees Rising Covid Cases from Office Clusters during Ramadan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Covid-19 Task Force reported that there has been an increasing rate of transmission among office workers in Jakarta over the last two weeks, or since the start of Ramadan.
"From April 5 to 11, we found 157 cases in 78 office sites. From April 12 to 18, the number increased to 425 cases from 177 offices," the task force's spokesman and coordinator of experts, Wiku Adisasmito, told reporters during an online conference, Tuesday, April 27.
The Task Force, he said, has urged local governments to suspend all office activities and operations. During the closure, he asked for the buildings to be disinfected.
Wiku also called for contact tracing—and for the contacts to be tested—to prevent further spreading.
He asserted that other cities must take a lesson from what is happening in Jakarta. "For cities/regencies that are not implementing PPKM (micro-scale restrictions), please make a clear local regulation that will allow residents to go on with their socio-economic activities while staying safe from Covid-19," he said.
