TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police planned to summon the management of Persija Jakarta soccer club and the Jakmania fans group. The police’s Head of Public Relations Division Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus said the investigation was related to the crowds of fans at the Hotel Indonesia or HI Roundabout, Central Jakarta.

“We will gather information from several people including from the Jakmania and Persija managements while waiting for the results of the investigation team,” said Yusri at the Jakarta Police's traffic law enforcement office, Pancoran, South Jakarta, Monday, April 26, 2021.

The police found crowds of the Jakmania at the HI Roundabout area in the early hours of Monday celebrating the victory of Persija in the 2021 Menpora Cup. The police strived to disperse the crowds until 03:00 local time.

The police also took 65 people to the Jakarta Metro Police HQ for questioning. They were determined to find out whether there were certain parties provoking the Jakmania to flock to the HI Roundabout.

The avid fans of the capital’s soccer club claimed to spontaneously celebrate the victory at the HI Roundabout as it was considered as the icon of Persija.

However, the police were still examining the crowds and checking into possible invitations to such gatherings sent through social networking sites. “We are still conducting a profiling whether there is a possible invitation through social media,” said Yusri.
