TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Teten Masduki announced Monday the government was formulating a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) on entrepreneurship in an attempt to boost the number of new entrepreneurs.
Indonesia currently has 3.47 percent of entrepreneurs, which according to Teten, is still below expectations compared to neighboring countries or developed nations that have four percent of new entrepreneurs.
“The President intends to add the number of new entrepreneurs,” he said in a webinar on April 19. “Our goal with this Presidential Regulation on entrepreneurship is to establish new superior entrepreneurs in existing MSMEs and or new young entrepreneurs.”
He implied that future strategies might see the government partner with campuses to accompany MSME entrepreneurs with the hopes of seeing domestic products compete on the global scale.
Teten Masduki said the weaknesses of Indonesia’s MSMEs were its product research and development, so campuses would be involved to help solve these issues.
