TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police Chief Insp. Gen. Fadil Imran has banned "sahur on the road" activities during Ramadan 2021. “Unimportant activities, such as ‘sahur on the road’, which involve groups of people, crowds, and motor racing, which have no value of Ramadan, will be banned,” said Fadli at the Jakarta Police headquarters on Monday, April 12, 2021.

Fadil said that the tradition in which Muslims have their pre-dawn meals or sahur or suhoor outside of their homes often leads to negative activities that disturb the community. He ensured that his side would take stern action against those violating the rules.

The ban is also part of the 2021 Keselamatan Jaya Operation and takes effect until April 25, 2021. The operation is a preparation for the implementation of the Eid homecoming ban on May 6-17, 2021.

The operation also aims at preventing the disruption of order caused by risky driving behaviors. “To minimize social security disturbances such as illegal racing and noise pollution, and to control the traffic in anticipation of homecoming flow.”

Other than banning sahur on the road activities and Eid homecoming, the operation promotes orderly traffic and humanitarian activities by distributing face masks and holding free antigen swab tests and social services to the community.
