Papua Police Beef Up Security at Airports after Burning of Helicopter

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Papua Police Chief Insp. Gen. Mathius D. Fakhiri has instructed Resort Police headquarters in the region to tighten security at airports and airfields following the burning of a Cooper helicopter allegedly committed by the armed criminal group (KKB) at Aminggaru Ilaga Airport on April 11, 2021, at around 20:20 East Indonesian Time (WIT).

“The burning carried out by the KKB aimed at disrupting flight activities. So the Papua Police Chief has instructed resort police headquarters to closely guard vital objects, especially airports and airfields,” said Papua Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Ahmad Mustofa Kamal in a written statement on Monday, April 12, 2021.

Kamal said the burnt helicopter was an inoperative one due to malfunctions. He addedthat the perpetrators were members of the armed criminal group, namely Prenngen Telenggen, Abu Bakar Kogoya, Lerymayu Telenggen and Numbuk Telenggen.

According to him, the four people have been on the wanted list of the joint team of the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) to be prosecuted according to the law.

“The TNI-Polri are hunting down this group. We will take firm action against the KKB who carried out brutal actions in Ilaga,” said Kamal.
