TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Police have deployed K9 tracker dogs to assist the search and rescue efforts for missing people in the flash floods and landslides in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The Flood and Landslide Disaster Management Task Force chief, Insp. Gen. Anang Revandoko, said that the K9 dogs can reach difficult locations and areas that human officers might have missed.

"We hope that our two K9 sniffer dogs can speed up the search for victims," Anang said in a written statement on Monday, April 12.

The police had also dispatched 1,958 officers from several squads from a number of regencies to help with evacuation.

According to Anang, the troops sent include a medical team to help with treating victims and refugees. The team consists of 21 surgical medical personnel and 25 paramedics from the Korbrimob and the Medicine and Health Center (Pusdokkes).

He also said that the Police Headquarters has set up health posts in every location affected by flash floods and landslides in East Nusa Tenggara. A trauma healing team was also involved.

"We also have five public kitchens, five water purification cars, and five cars for the SAR team. We also provide basic necessities for the refugees," said Anang.
