TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - GeNose, a COVID-19 breathalyzer developed by an Indonesian scientist, can initially be utilized at Bali’s Ngurah Rai international airport for screening travelers, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has said. “Ngurah Rai International Airport is the fifth airport to implement GeNose after the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II international airport in Palembang, Husein Sastranegara airport in Bandung, Yogyakarta international airport, and Juanda airport in Surabaya on April 1 (2021),” Sumadi said in a press release here on Saturday.

He thanked and lauded Bali’s regional administration and PT Angkasa Pura 1 for helping implement the GeNose service at the Ngurah Rai airport.

“The GeNose service has been tested. As many as five hundred thousand train passengers have already used it and they have admitted to feeling more comfortable because it is cheaper, does not hurt, and has a high accuracy level,” the minister said.

Passengers only have to pay Rp40,000 to take the GeNose C-19 test at the Ngurah Rai airport, he informed. The testing venue is located in the public area of the arrivals terminal and is operational from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. local time.

The implementation of the GeNose test at transportation facilities, like airports, is a follow-up, according to a Task Force letter (No.12/2021) regarding domestic travel amid the COVID-19 pandemic, changed into the Transportation Ministry’s letter No.26/2021 on guidelines for domestic travel by airplane during the COVID-19 pandemic.
