TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Police asked residents to postpone their plans for 2021 Eid homecoming travels. "This is clear. Homecoming is prohibited," Head of the Traffic Corps, Insp. Gen. Istiono, said on Friday, April 9.

He stated that the National Police had organized a cross-operation coordination meeting to for securing this year's Eid al-Fitr, while the Covid-19 pandemic is still happening.

Istiono called on everyone to obey the 'Mudik Ban' set by the government. For the police, he said that the main thing is to provide a sense of security and comfort to the community before, during and after Eid.

He also expects police officers to anticipate street crimes and secure community activities during Ramadan and Eid.

"Prevent and anticipate acts of terrorism and increase vigilance. Perform maximum security at the center of community activities, such as houses of worship, shopping centers and tourist attractions so that people feel safe," Istiono said.

He also specifically asked the traffic police to increase security during April 26-May 5, or before the Eid homecoming prohibition policy takes effect from May 6-17. This is carried out over predictions that citizens will try to 'cheat' and travel to their hometowns before the prohibition is in effect.
