Terrorist Suspects Use Codename 'Takjil' for Bombs

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Police revealed that four suspected terrorists in Condet and Bekasi have a codename for ready-to-use bombs. Based on Police's investigation, the terrorists use the codename 'takjil', translated as food for break fasting, as a name for their homemade bombs.

"After mixing chemicals and producing a high-explosive bomb, they called it 'takjil'," saif Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Mohammad Fadil Imran on Monday, March 29, 2021.

Fadil explained that following a search in each of the terrorist houses. the Police confiscated materials to make bombs such as TATP (triacetone triperoxide). Fadil explained that TATP-based bombs are volatile and can easily explode, even with mild friction that generates low heat.

"Other materials for explosives such as acetone, HCL, thermometer, and aluminum powder," Fadil added.

Fadil stated that the Police also found five jars of TATP each weighing at 3.5 kilograms. Fadil explained that such amount of TATP can be used to make 70 pipe bombs.

Four of the suspected terrorists arrested in Cikarang, Bekasi, and Condet are identified as ZA, BS, AJ, and HH. Each person were assigned different roles such as purchaser of raw materials, assembler, and funding.

The suspects are currently under intensive investigation by the Special Anti-Terrorism Detachment 88. Fadil added that the suspects are subject to crime under Article 15 in conjunction with Article 7 and/or Article 9 of Law No. 5 of 2018 concerning Terrorism, which carries a punishment of 15 years of imprisonment.
