TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Transportation Ministry is preparing a derivative regulation for using GeNose as a Covid-19 screening tool at airports. The regulation refers to a Circular from the Covid-19 Task Force, No.12/2021, on the Travel Provisions for Domestic People during the 2019 Coronavirus Disease Pandemic.

"The Task Force has issued a circular designating GeNose as one of Covid screening tools in public transportation. Internally, we are preparing the derivative rules for all modes of transportation," the ministry's spokesperson Adita Irawati told Tempo on Monday, March 29.

The government will allow the use of the GeNose at airport starting April 1, 2021. The tool, developed by Gadjah Mada University (UGM), can be an alternative and more affordable solution for passenger testing, in addition to the PCR swab test and the rapid antigen test.

GeNose is already being used at long-distance train stations. At the end of February, the UGM promised to improve the accuracy of GeNose before it was used at the airport.

As of now, the UGM claims GeNose has an accuracy rate of up to 90 percent.
