TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Foreign Ministry has yet to receive a report of Indonesians being affected by a 7.2-magnitude earthquake which struck off the coast of Japan's Miyagi Prefecture on Saturday.

The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo has coordinated with representatives of Indonesian citizens in Miyagi Prefecture to monitor the condition of Indonesians, the ministry said in a press statement released on Sunday.

"There has been no report of Indonesians being affected by the earthquake," the ministry said.

The embassy also continued to monitor the condition in the wake of the earthquake through local media, authorities and the public.

The embassy's hotline can be accessed through +81 90-3506-8612 or +81 80-4940-7419.

A powerful earthquake struck off the coast of Miyagi at a depth of 60 kilometers on Saturday at around 06:00 local time.

Reuters quoted the broadcaster NHK as saying the earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.2 generated a tsunami of 1 meter

About an hour after Saturday’s earthquake, all tsunami alerts were lifted, after warning the public not to go near the shore.

While there were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries, the earthquake was strong enough to shake buildings in Tokyo, some 400 km (250 miles) away.
