Police Confiscate 144.5 tons Marijuana from Huge Dealer

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Jakarta Police busted a top drug dealer specializing in cannabis or marijuana. The police confiscated 144.5 tons of evidence.

"Five hundred kilograms are packed, ready to sell, one kilogram each. The 144 tons were taken from a cannabis field around 12 hectares in size," Jakarta Metro Police chief, Insp. Gen Fadil Imran, said in West Jakarta, Tuesday, March 9.

Fadil said that the case began in July 2020 when a marijuana dealer, Andri Hidayat, was arrested by the police. From testimonies given by Andri, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison, the police began tracking down the drug ring.

On February 16, the police thwarted a marijuana smuggling in Depok, confiscating 115 kilograms of cannabis. From then on, the police continue with its investigation.

In March, the police found a 12-hectare cannabis field in Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra Utara.

The police have named nine people as suspects in this case, including the field owner, F. The suspects are facing life sentences and/or the death penalty.
