TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, said that the state's economy have shown signs of recovery from the Covid-19 crisis, starting in January this year. He referred to the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) and rupiah exchange rate, which he said to be forming a V shape.
"The JCI and the rupiah, based on last January and this January's numbers, have recovered. The uptrend can be seen in the charts, which shows a V shape," Airlangga said during a coordination meeting on disaster management in Jakarta, Tuesday.
A 'V' shape curve reflects a faster economic recovery—showing a rebound after a sharp downturn, with the economy returning to its pre-crisis position.
Airlangga claims that compared to some countries in Asia's, Indonesia has experienced less impact on the economy and health sectors; when looking at the rate of contraction and death toll.
This, he said, is apparent in the economic growths in the second and fourth quarters of 2020.
Minister Airlangga Hartarto hopes that the economy can recover faster this year, along with the ongoing vaccination program. The national Covid-19 vaccination program is expected to create herd immunity by the end of this year, by injecting the vaccine to 182 million of the population.
