TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police’s Public Information Bureau Chief Brig. Gen. Rusdi Hartono has made a statement on the supervision mechanism of police personnel following the issuance of a ban on consuming alcoholic drinks and entering entertainment venues for members of the police.

Rusdi said the supervision would be based on public reports. “The mechanism is through public reports that would be followed-up on by members of the police’s Internal Affairs Division (Propam) that would check on the field to monitor the act of the reported police member,” he said on Friday, 26 February 2021.

Rusdi explained this meant the public could report to the nearest police station should they spot any police personnel entering entertainment venues or consuming alcohol, or even being drunk.

Rusdi said the reported police personnel would be punished according to the prevailing regulations if found guilty.

The National Police’s internal affairs division issued the ban in the wake of a fresh incident involving a policeman (CS) who opened fire on four persons at a café in Cengkareng, West Jakarta. Three people were killed in the incident—one of them a soldier.

“The National Police’s Internal Affairs Division will launch a crackdown related to the prohibition for police members against entering entertainment venues and drinking alcohol,” the National Police’s Internal Affairs Division chief Insp. Gen. Ferdy Sambo said in a written statement on Thursday, February 25, 2021.
