Police will be Banned from Drinking Alcohol Following Deadly Incident

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police Internal Affairs (Propam) immediately issued a ban against policemen consuming alcohol following a bloody incident where a police personnel identified as CS shot four people - injuring one and killing three people with one of them being a military member - after an altercation broke at a local bar in Cengkareng, West Jakarta.

"The Propam will enforce the order that bans national police members from entering night-entertainments and consuming alcohol, which includes drug abuse," said Insp. Gen. Ferdy Sambo, the Internal Affairs Spokesperson on Thursday, February 25, 2021.

The police member committing the multiple murders is now named a suspect and is undergoing criminal investigation at the Metro Jaya Police by general crime directorate officers.

General Sambo asserted that CS will be dishonorably discharged from the police force in accordance with the Police Code of Ethics Article 35 of Law No.2/2002.

The bloody incident at the Cengkareng bar happened at the early dawn of Thursday, February 25, after CS arrived at the bar at 02:00 AM Western Indonesia Time (WIB). But at around 04:00 AM WIB as the bar was about to close an altercation happened between employees and CS after the suspect refused to pay his bill that had racked up to IDR3.3 million.

According to witness testimony, during this heated moment, CS suddenly took out his firearm and immediately shot four people who were involved in the dispute. Three people are confirmed to have died at the location while one is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
