TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo issued a circular concerning the awareness of ethical culture to create a clean, healthy, and productive Indonesian digital space. Sigit inked the circular number SE/2/11/2021 dated February 19.

In the letter, Sigit issued several considerations of the development of national conditions related to the implementation of the Information and Electronic Transactions Law (ITE Law) which deemed contradictory to the rights of the freedom of expression through digital platforms.

“All members of the National Police are expected to be committed to implementing law enforcement that can provide a sense of justice for the community,” said Sigit as quoted from a statement received by Tempo on Monday, February 22.

He reiterated that in order to enforce a fair law, the National Police will prioritize education and persuasive measures so that they can avoid allegations of criminalization of the reported person and ensure that Indonesia's digital space remains clean, healthy, ethical, and productive.

“This circular is released for all members of the Police to follow and obey,” said Sigit.
