TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has officially received his Covid-19 vaccine shot today on Wednesday morning which marks the first of the elderly group that has been vaccinated.

“This morning we have accompanied the VP Ma’ruf Amin,” said the Health Minister in a live Youtube video streamed from the ministry’s official account on February 17.

The Minister hopes that this would encourage and motivate the elderly population to accept the vaccine as he believes this demographic is prone to be exposed to the virus.

“Hopefully this will motivate older people in Indonesia who are at risk to contract the illness to come to us to be vaccinated,” said Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

The Health Minister revealed that 10 percent of this demographic had contracted Covid-19 but 50 percent of those who did ended up not surviving which is an alarming rate. The Food and Drugs Monitoring Agency (BPOM) on February 5 issued an emergency use authorization for the CoronaVac to be used for people aged above 60 years old in the country.
