TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said the government devoted all attention, energy, and resources to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic which paralyzed the social and economic life of the people.
“Not only in Indonesia but all countries in the world without exception,” said Ma'ruf in his speech during an online event of the National Police on Tuesday, February 16.
Ma'ruf said the pandemic had forced the government to take extraordinary and quick steps to curb transmission, prevent casualties, and maintain people's purchasing power, as well as recover the economy.
“Alhamdulillah various policies, programs, and efforts that we have taken have yielded quite good results,” the VP expressed gratitude.
At the macro level, Ma'ruf explained that the achievement was evident from the improvement in the economic growth rate in 2020 per quarter albeit, on the annual basis, it showed a contraction of about 2 percent.
Additionally, he went on, the absorption of the State Budget also reached 96 percent and the distribution of social assistance for MSMEs was fully complete.
“And the handling of the pandemic could relatively suppress the number of infected people and dead victims to a level better than the global average,” Ma'ruf Amin said.
