M4.1 Earthquake Shakes Berau in East Kalimantan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded an earthquake with magnitude 4.1 in Berau, East Kalimantan, on Friday, Jan 29, at 00:42 Western Indonesia Time.

The center of the quake was at sea, 76 kilometers southeast of Berau at the depth of 10 kilometers, or at the coordinate of 2,03 degrees North Longitude and 118,05 degrees East Latitude, as stated by the agency on its official page bmkg.go.id.

BMKG recorded the quake was felt in Tanjung Redeb and Tabllar, East Kalimantan at II-III Mercalli (MMI) scale.

The II MMI scale, according to the agency, is the tremor that could be felt by several people, and hanging goods also shaking. Meanwhile, the III MMI scale quake could really be felt inside the home, as if there is a truck passing by.

There have been no reports on damages caused by the earthquake.
