TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Some health workers who were prioritized to be inoculated in the first phase of the Covid-19 vaccination program in Yogyakarta were removed from the list of recipients.

The Yogyakarta Health Agency Head Pembajun Setyaning Astutie revealed Monday, Jan. 25, that most of them reportedly suffered from hypertension which was linked to stress and fatigue in the wake of the pandemic.

According to her, 3,030 medical workers in Yogyakarta City and 4,687 medical workers in Sleman had been vaccinated as of January 15.

“The number of workers who do not pass (the requirements to get the vaccine) is below 5 percent due to various factors,” said Pembajun.

She reiterated that most of them did not qualify for receiving the vaccine as they were suffering from hypertension allegedly due to work-related fatigue. Some of them were women who were pregnant or breastfeeding.

“This condition shows that besides providing services, health workers are also obliged to take care of themselves,” Pembajun remarked.

Yogyakarta targeted 35,239 healthcare workers, both in state and private medical centers, to receive the Covid-19 vaccine for the initial stage of the vaccination program and expected it to complete in February 2021.
