Estimated Losses from South Kalimantan Floods Up to Rp1.349 Trillion

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) announced Monday that the losses due to the devastating South Kalimantan floods were estimated to reach Rp1.349 trillion.

“The losses estimates as of January 22, 2021, from the sectors of education, health and social affairs, agriculture, fisheries, infrastructure, and people’s economic productivity amount to Rp1.349 trillion,” said BPPT rapid reaction team member Nugraheni Setyaningrum to Antara on January 25.

According to Setyaningrum, the sector that was hit the hardest was people’s productivity with an estimated loss of Rp604.562 billion.

The BPPT data were gathered from spatial images and data from the the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and the map of Indonesia (RBI).

However, this estimates have yet to include the possible losses in the field of tourism, environmental damages, sanitation facilities, and long-term economic condition prior to the South Kalimantan floods.
