Major Earthquake Hits North Sulawesi; Infrastructure Damages Reported

TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that the magnitude 7.0 earthquake on January 21 has devastated North Sulawesi . The agency also started to receive reports of infrastructure damages.
"The infrastructure damages were reported from two sub-districts in the Talaud Islands Regency," said the BNPB spokesperson Raditya Jati on Friday, January 22.
Reports on Thursday evening suggest that building structures endured minor damages in the Beo and North Beo sub-districts.
In terms of casualties caused by the earthquake , BNPB says that the local disaster mitigation is still collecting data in the field.
The magnitude 7.0 quake at 19:23 local time lasted for roughly three seconds. The epicenter was at 132 kilometers northeast of Melongue, North Sulawesi, at the depth of 119 kilometers.
