Food Crisis Prevention; Police Asked to Monitor Food Estate Program

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian National Police Chief General Idham Azis instructed all regional police chiefs to carry out three central government policies related to agrarian reform and food security.
One of them is the development of food estates in Pulang Pisau Regency and Kapuas Regency of Central Kalimantan covering an area of 600,000 hectares, as well as in Humbang Hasudutan Regency, North Tapanuli Regency, Central Tapanuli Regency, and West Pakpak Regency of North Sumatra with areas of 30,000 hectares.
The order was stipulated in the Police Chief’s Telegram Letter No. ST/41/I/Ops.2./2021 dated January 12, 2021, concerning support for government policies to build national food security and develop the agricultural sector. This letter was inked by the Security Maintenance Agency Chief Comr. Gen. Agus Andrianto on behalf of the National Police Chief.
“To anticipate potential food crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the government issued various policies, particularly in the agricultural sector which can still grow positively during the pandemic,” said Agus in a written statement on Wednesday, January 13, 2021.
Agus added that the policies also aimed at optimizing the use of forest areas to provide benefits to the community, especially those living in the countryside and areas around the forest.
