TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government is setting up plots of lands in Rorotan public cemetery in North Jakarta as the grave for Covid-19 victims.

“This is one of the solutions to overcome the poor availability of burial grounds in Jakarta,” said the Head of Rorotan Urban Village, Idham Mugabe, in a written statement on Wednesday, Jan. 6.

Located on Jalan Rorotan IX of Cilincing District, the cemetery has 25 hectares of land, he added. The city administration has prepared two hectares for the Covid-19 burial site.

In the first phase, Idham went on, the Jakarta Bina Marga Agency set up 8,000 square meters to make around 1,500 grave plots. The dredging process was still afoot.

Rorotan Urban Village had disseminated and issued a circular regarding the burial plan. “Alhamdulillah, the residents understand [the problem],” Idham said.

Idham explained that his region has two cemeteries, namely Malaka 4 and Malaka Bulak. However, the grave capacity was already full and only served overlapping burial graves.
