TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria clarified that the government’s decision to tighten the social restrictions was not part of the emergency brake.

According to him, public activities will not completely be prohibited during the restrictions. “The central government calls it a tighter restriction. That’s what we apply,” said Riza at the City Hall today, Jan. 6.

Riza recalled that Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan had asked the Jakarta provincial government to impose tighter restrictions during the Transitional Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB).

“We have implemented it before Christmas and New Year holidays. Alhamdulillah, [the tightening policy] is taken by the central government today,” he added.

The Covid-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery Committee Chairman, Airlangga Hartarto, announced today, Jan. 6, that the central government was set to apply a tighter social restriction in certain regions throughout Java Island and Bali, including Jakarta, starting January 11 to 25, 2021.

Ahmad Riza said the city administration has prepared for the policy. “This is in line with the policy that will be taken by Jakarta Governor (Anies Baswedan),” he said.
