TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government decided to impose social restrictions in Java Island and Bali beginning January 11 to 25, 2021, following the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the regions.
“The government sees that several public activities need to be restricted,” said the Covid-19 Mitigation and National Economic Recovery Committee Chairman, Airlangga Hartarto, during a press conference at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, Jan. 6.
Airlangga said that the decision was made in consideration of the number of new weekly cases in December that hit 48,434. Besides, the figure even reached 51,986 in January 2021.
A province, regency, or city must meet certain criteria before it is allowed to enforce the restrictions, he informed.
The parameters include a region’s death rate must be above the national case fatality rate or 3 percent, its recovery rate is below the national trend of 82 percent, the number of active cases is lower than the country’s figure or 14 percent, and the occupancy rate of hospital ICU and isolation beds exceeds 70 percent.
“The enforcement of social restriction is carried out in Java and Bali because they have met the set four parameters,” Airlangga said.
