TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Ma’ruf Amin will reportedly not be a recipient of the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine in the country’s initial vaccination phase due to age restriction.

Citing Antaranews, the Vice President’s spokesperson Masduki explained on January 6 that “Because the VP is over 60 years of age and does not make it possible for him to be vaccinated with the current ne, the Sinovac.”

He explains that the vice president may be able to receive shots from alternative vaccines that would allow someone his age to be injected. “Maybe in the next phase if there are vaccines that meet the criteria and condition of VP Ma’ruf Amin,” said Masduki.

Indonesia’s first phase vaccination will utilize those bought from China’s Sinovac Biotech that is undergoing clinical trials in Bandung before it can be submitted for emergency use authorization from the BPOM and MUI.

The official recommendation suggests that the Sinovac vaccine recipients must be aged between 18-59 years old and ust be free of comorbids such as autoimmune issues, acute infections, hypertension, and more.

President Jokowi is slated to be the first recipient in the vaccination scheduled for January 13.
