TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin on Tuesday assures that Indonesia’s inaugural Covid-19 vaccination is scheduled to be held next week on Wednesday, January 13. The first of the vaccine recipients will be President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and members of his Cabinet at the central government.
This was revealed during a coordination meeting on the 2021 vaccination preparedness and health protocol enforcements at the Home Affairs Ministry headquarters in Central Jakarta today.
“The first injection will be held next Wednesday in Jakarta subjecting our President,” said the Health Minister as cited from the Home Affairs’ written statement on January 5.
After the first recipients, the vaccination will be given simultaneously to healthcare workers across the nation with regional leaders urged to witness the process. That and the significant move to subject President Jokowi as vaccine recipient number one is meant to gain public trust towards the vaccine.
“Governors and other regional leaders are urged to witness the vaccination to build public confidence,” said the Health Minister.
