TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Administration, through the Education Department, has set to continue remote learning or home learning system in the second semester of the 2020/2021 school year. Head of Education Department Nahdiana said that during this pandemic, her side prioritizes the health and safety of the students, teachers, and educational staff.

The Jakarta Provincial Government, she went on, is being careful in taking the decision. “Face-to-face learning can yet to be implemented, therefore, all schools in Jakarta will continue to conduct homeschooling,” Nahdiana said in a written statement on Saturday, January 2, 2021.

However, the Jakarta Education Department, in collaboration with several parties, is preparing a system to do face-to-face learning. The department, Nahdiana said, has received recommendations to guarantee the health and safety of all parties involved in face-to-face class sessions.

She said the education department has set a website dubbed ‘Siap Belajar’ that will be used to conduct an assessment to measure the readiness of schools in the capital city in implementing educational activities in the 2020/2021 school year.

The assessment points contained on the website, she explained, are based on standards from the Education Ministry, Circular of Jakarta Education Department Head No.1130/2020, and guidelines issued by UNESCO and OECD.

The Education Department also coordinates with the Indonesian Pediatric Society (IDAI), Jakarta Health Department, National Child Protection Commission (KPAI), education experts, education agencies, and the parents in forming the assessment standards.

The results of the assessment will become a base for the Education Department to determine which schools are ready to implement the 'blended learning' system; the combination of face-to-face learning and remote learning.
