TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta provincial administration reported that the capital city was ranked first in the Human Development Index (HDI).
“[Jakarta has] the highest Human Development Index in Indonesia,” said Governor Anies Baswedan in his Twitter account @aniesbaswedan on Tuesday night, Dec. 29, 2020.
Anies expressed his gratitude for the achievement and appreciated the work of his staffers. “Alhamdulillah, I appreciate all staffers of the Jakarta Provincial Government for their works in improving public welfare, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic,” he tweeted.
The capital city’s HDI was recorded at a score of 80.77. In the city’s official Twitter account @DKIJakarta, the figure exceeded the national average index of 71.94.
The HDI is a measure of average achievement in key dimensions of development, such as long and healthy life or life expectancy, education, and a decent standard of living.
Jakarta’s 2020 HDI was higher compared to the 2018 index at 80.47, while the previous year’s HDI was 80.76.
