TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 212 Alumni Brotherhood (PA 212) deputy secretary Novel Bamukmin asserted that his side would keep staging a demonstration dubbed the 1812 rally today, Dec. 18, although the Jakarta Metro Police did not issue the permit.

The rally which aimed at demanding the release of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) frontman Rizieq Shihab and the investigation of the fatal shooting of six FPI members would also be held along with the Anticommunist National Alliance (ANAK NKRI).

“The rally will still be held because based on the law, it does not need a permit but only a notification letter,” said Novel to Tempo on Friday, December 18, 2020.

He said the rally would be joined by thousands of people. Yet he stopped short of detailing the number.

Previously, Jakarta Metro Police Chief Insp. Gen. Mohammad Fadil Imran firmly said that he would not issue a receipt notification letter (STTP) regarding the demonstration, which means the police did not allow the rally.

Fadil explained that the police would launch a humanitarian operation in anticipation of the 1812 rally, carrying out 3T namely Testing, Tracing, and Treatment in order to control the crowd amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Public safety is the highest law,” said Fadil.
