TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Region (Daop) 1 Jakarta confirmed that the mandatory PCR swab test and rapid antigen test have not been yet required for long-distance train passengers to date.

The KAI Daop 1 spokesperson Eva Chairunisa said her side was still waiting for further government decisions related to the mandatory Covid-19 test that has been imposed for airlines and land transport passengers.

“KAI as the operator of rail-based transport always complies with the regulator’s policies, by means the government,” said Eva in a statement on Thursday, Dec. 17.

The travel requirement was first initiated by Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan. Luhut said the policy applies to passengers of air transport during the Christmas and New Year holidays season.

As there was no official provision issued by the central government to date, Eva clarified that the KAI operation would refer to the old policies. Here are the applicable rules for long-distance train passengers:

  1. Passengers are required to present negative PCR swab test results or non-reactive rapid test results which are valid for 14 days from issuance. If a region does not have PCR or rapid test facility, passengers can bring a medical certificate stating free from influenza-like illnesses.
  2. The train capacity must be limited to 70 percent of the total seats.
  3. Passengers must wear a face shield during the trip and are advised to wear long-sleeved clothing. Those having a body temperature of above 37.3 degrees Celsius will be prohibited to board the train, and KAI will refund the ticket.
  4. Passengers are obliged to implement the predetermined health protocols against Covid-19.
