TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police have named Rizieq Shihab as a suspect in connection to the mass gathering events in Petamburan, Central Jakarta. The police planned to pick up the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) frontman by force.

“In this case, the police will use force, including detain and pick him (Rizieq) by force,” said Metro Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus in the Metro Police HQ, South Jakarta, Thursday, Dec. 10.

Other than Rizieq, the police have also named five other people as suspects. They are Haris Ubaidillah, A, MS, Sobri Lubis, and Habib Idrus as the people in charge of the events.

The police would charge Rizieq Shihab with Article 160 of the Criminal Code on provocation to commit criminal acts which resulted in a health emergency in the community. The police would also use Article 216 of the Criminal Code which carries a maximum sentence of six years’ imprisonment.

The other five suspects, meanwhile, would be subject to Article 93 of Health Quarantine Law No. 6 of 2018 with a sentence of one year behind bars.

Yusri explained that the suspect naming was based on the result of the case investigation on Dec. 8, 2020, which also found pieces of evidence regarding the huge crowd.
