Ganjar Pranowo Calls on Residents Not to Leave Town for Year-end Holidays

TEMPO.CO, Semarang - Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo appealed to residents not to travel out of town for year-end holidays. He opined that the cross-regional mobility of people also increased potential Covid-19 transmission.
“I ask all to stay in their respective areas during year-end holidays,” said Ganjar on Thursday, Dec. 3.
The government had cut short the year-end collective leave days and holidays from 11 to 8 days. The collective leave days for Eid al-Fitr, which was moved to December, was reduced to only one day in an effort to curb virus spread.
Ganjar asked people to spend Christmas and New Year 2021 at home. “If possible, celebrate it with families at your respective places,” he said.
For those who insisted on going on vacation, Ganjar warned them to stay vigilant in tourist destinations. He recalled that people tend to neglect health protocols when traveling.
He also hoped Central Java people who work outside the province would not return to their hometown. “I suggest those out of town to not go homecoming,” Ganjar said.
Spending the long holidays while staying at home is a part of community participation in suppressing the Covid-19 transmission, the minister underlined. “That will really help us overcome this pandemic.”
