Police Hunt for East Indonesia Mujahidin Hampered by Challenging Terrain

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Sulawesi Police spokesperson, Sr. Commissioner Didik Supranoto on Tuesday said that the highland areas, where members of the East Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT) fled to, posed a challenge for Indonesian security personnel.

“It is challenging to master the terrain as the highlands are quite vast and is a rainforest,” said Didik to Tempo in a phone interview on December 1. “Communication is also difficult as there are no services there.”

Meanwhile, the terrorist group led by Ali Kolara has mastered the locations where they had fled to. However, Didik assures the local task force established to specifically handle this pursuit will come up with a strategy.

As reported across numerous news headlines, the vile acts of terror believed to be done by members of the East Indonesia Mujahidin killed four people in one family on November 27. The suspects also burned six houses and one that was used as a house of worship.
