TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prospective customers of PT Pegadaian (Persero) can now save gold through Shopee. With an initial capital of as little as Rp500, the customer's investment will be converted from rupiah into gold savings.

"We develop products to better suit customer demands. So since September 28, services (gold purchase via e-commerce) were made open to the public," Pegadaian's director of information and digital technology Teguh Wahyono said in a virtual press conference on Tuesday, October 27.

Customers who want to save gold must open a savings account through the e-commerce platform or a Pegadaian branch office.

After depositing an initial capital of Rp500, customers can start buying gold starting at Rp5,000. Customers can also transfer gold to fellow Shopee users, for a minimum weight of 0.01 grams and a maximum of 100 grams, provided they keep a minimum balance of 0.05 grams.

In the first year, the customer is exempted from savings fees. Afterward, Pegadaian will charge Rp30,000 per year.

Shopee Indonesia director Christin Djuarto hopes the collaboration can provide practical solutions for safe and reliable transactions.

Pegadaian has previously collaborated with Tokopedia as a partner to market gold digitally, as one of their join-efforts to improve the rate of financial inclusivity.
